Working on TruNAS

  1. Assembled TruNAS, mounted all 18TB drives and write-cache drive
  2. Connected provided ethernet line to non-mgmt port on back of machine, other end to switch behind CC
  3. Booted machine
  4. Logged into trunas.local and used user/pass
  5. Saw that one drive was not being found after login
    1. Storage > Disks
    2. Used `dd if=/dev/ada[0-5] of=/dev/null bs=1M count=5000` where [0-5] is one of the devices listed
    3. Isolated it to ada5 in bay 2. Swapped bay 2 with bay 3 to check if it's the drive or the bay
      1. It's the drive!
  6. Sent email to TruNAS support for a new drive (jacob.chamblee@ixsystems.com)
  1. Noted chirping in one of the drives that went away …
    1. It was the bad drive
