Setting Tracking Rate

This is the procedure to set the tracking rate on DFMTCS

Control Computer

  1. Open DFM TCS Software
  2. Go to “Telescope” on top bar
  3. Select “Rates”
  4. Set RA tracking rate to 15.011 arcsec/sec
  5. Click Apply
  6. Verify tracking rate on the center status panel “Rates” that 15.042 arcsec/sec had been successfully applied

Tracking Rates

For most situations, setting the tracking rate to 15.011 arcsec/sec is recommended. This is the sidereal tracking rate with empirical modifications a la Onkar and Connor.

Ignore this stuff … Onkar and Roy don't remember writing this. GABRIEL!? When setting autoguiding speed, DFMTCS has a bug that results in 15.042 arcsec/sec not being sidereal. When using the autoguiding port or handpaddle port, sidereal speed is ~11 arcsec/sec. This only means that the telescope is moving faster than it is supposed to when setting those rates, and might prove useful when autoguiding.
