Tour of Control Room
- Start with:
- white lights on
- lava lamp on,
- DC and CC logged in
- Cool images cycling on DC
- SharpCap open (and connected if observing)
- PHD2 Open (and running if observing)
- CC enabled for motor control of dome and possible telescope movement
- DFM TCS on with NO TRACKING
- Bring about 12 people in and encourage them to spread out in the space and look around
- Close the door once everyone is in, if you're able
Talking Points Abridged
- Control room a.k.a. warm room
- Red lights
- Data Computer
- Cameras
- Show CCD vs CMOS
- Control Computer
- Motors and Encoders for telescope and dome
- Model Refractor Telescope (2“ Baby Blue)
- Model Reflector Telescope (Any of the 8” Schmidt-Cassegrains)
Talking Points Unabridged
- Control Room a.k.a. warm room – clearest skies are in the winter (best seeing) so the CR is the one we want to stay in
- We also don't really want to go into the dome during observations because this can also reduce seeing by letting building air out via the dome
- To match light conditions, we generally keep the red lights on in the CR (flip the switch or ask someone else to)
