Tour of Control Room

  1. Start with:
    1. white lights on
    2. lava lamp on,
    3. DC and CC logged in
    4. Cool images cycling on DC
    5. SharpCap open (and connected if observing)
    6. PHD2 Open (and running if observing)
    7. CC enabled for motor control of dome and possible telescope movement
    8. DFM TCS on with NO TRACKING
  2. Bring about 12 people in and encourage them to spread out in the space and look around
  3. Close the door once everyone is in, if you're able
  1. Control room a.k.a. warm room
  2. Red lights
  3. Data Computer
    1. Cameras
    2. Show CCD vs CMOS
  4. Control Computer
    1. Motors and Encoders for telescope and dome
  5. Model Refractor Telescope (2“ Baby Blue)
  6. Model Reflector Telescope (Any of the 8” Schmidt-Cassegrains)
  1. Control Room a.k.a. warm room – clearest skies are in the winter (best seeing) so the CR is the one we want to stay in
  2. We also don't really want to go into the dome during observations because this can also reduce seeing by letting building air out via the dome
  3. To match light conditions, we generally keep the red lights on in the CR (flip the switch or ask someone else to)
